OVERVIEW

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for chronic pain is a specialty unto itself. This training program is practical, patient-oriented and provides information on:

  • The historical context and efficacy of this therapeutic approach.

  • Basic pain mechanisms and treatment of chronic pain.

  • Multiple cognitive behavioral interventions that can assist with improving coping and function.

If you are a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant, this training program can supplement the pharmacological, interventional and surgical treatments recommended to patients with chronic pain.

If you are a psychologist, social worker, counselor or behavioral health consultant this program offers a complete behavioral medicine program for your clients or patients.

Course Instructors

Kimberly Swanson, Ph. D.

Dr. Swanson is a leader in the healthcare and Behavioral Health industry. She has experience in health psychology, behavioral medicine and chronic pain with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) focused in Clinical Psychology from Alliant International University-San Diego Cornerstone Court. Completion of two post doctoral fellowships: 1) Chronic Pain at the University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology; 2) Healthcare Leadership & Healthcare Transformation at the Oregon Health Authority Transformation Center. Kim also serves as the Chair of the Central Oregon Pain Standards Taskforce and is the owner of Flourish Counseling and Behavioral Medicine.

Mark Altenhofen, MS

Mr. Altenhofen is the CEO and founder of Pain Advisors and Naviatric, LLC. His background includes more than 25 years of experience, specializing in assessment and treatment of persistent pain. He holds a bachelor of science degree in psychology from the University of Oregon, a master of science degree in counseling psychology from Southern Oregon University, and postgraduate certifications in behavioral medicine from Harvard Medical School and hypnotherapy from the Milton Erickson Institute.
